ABOUT THIS RING

A fascinating, rare, and collectible piece of Georgian jewelry artwork. Octagonal in shape, the top of this ring features a glass-covered portrait of a cherub framed by a shimmering 'necklace' of free-form natural pearls and supported by a ribbed shank with distinctive sheaf-like shoulders. An antique treasure ready for exhibit on your finger. Hand fabricated in silver over 14K gold, it is now and forever a ring size 6 3/4. Condition note:  As would be expected after a couple centuries or so, the painting has faded, some of the pearls show wear, and the glass coating shows some scratchiness.

Georgian Jewelry

True antiques, Georgian jewels are the earliest pieces in our collection. Lovely foil-backed stones in mixed-metal settings were made to shine by candlelight over dinner and in the drawing rooms of their genteel wearers. Many pieces were made in memory of loved ones or as “memento mori”—literal reminders of mortality that Georgians saw as sophisticated, rather than morbid. While the delicacy of Georgian era settings has been replaced by more modern methods, the cuts and styles have continued to fascinate jewelry lovers.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
